# Get started with Parker

> Sign in, connect your Salesforce login and mailbox, check your Agent mode, and ask your first questions.

Connect your accounts, check how Parker writes to Salesforce, and get answers from your own data.

<Note>
  **Are you an admin setting up Parker for your team?** Start with the [Admin quickstart](/admin/quickstart). Your team can't connect their Salesforce logins until you've connected your company's Salesforce.
</Note>

## Before you begin

* You have a Parker account in your workspace.
* Your admin has connected your company's Salesforce to Parker.
* You know your Salesforce login, and you have a Microsoft 365 (Outlook) or Gmail mailbox.

## What you connect, and what your admin connects

| Connection | Who connects it |
| - | - |
| Your company's Salesforce | Your admin, once for the whole workspace |
| Your own Salesforce login | You |
| Your mailbox (Microsoft 365 or Gmail) | You |
| Your calendar (Microsoft 365 or Google Calendar) | You |

## Set up and try Parker

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in">
    Sign in to Parker. Parker opens on a new chat that asks **What can I help with,** followed by your first name.

    If you belong to more than one workspace, check which one you're in. Its name shows under your name in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Connections">
    In the sidebar, select **Settings** (the gear button next to your name), and then select **Settings**. You can also press **⌘,** on a Mac or **Ctrl+,** on Windows.

    In **Settings**, select **Connections**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your Salesforce login">
    Select the **Salesforce** row and connect your Salesforce account. Salesforce opens. Sign in with your own Salesforce login and allow access.

    When you're connected, the **Salesforce account** row reads **Connected as**, followed by your Salesforce username.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your mailbox and calendar">
    Select **Connections** to go back. Then connect the mailbox you use for work:

    * **If you use Outlook or Microsoft 365,** select the **Microsoft 365** row. Microsoft grants calendar and mailbox access separately, so connect **Mail** and then select **Connect Calendar**.
    * **If you use Gmail,** select the **Microsoft 365** row, and then select **Connect Gmail** under **Mailboxes**. For Google Calendar, go back to **Connections**, select **Browse**, and select the **Google Calendar** row.

    Each provider opens a sign-in window. Allow access, and you return to Parker. For more detail, see [Connect your mailbox](/email/connect-mailbox).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your Agent mode">
    Select **Connections**, and then the **Salesforce** row. Under **How Parker works in Salesforce**, look at **Agent mode**:

    * **Test:** Parker only simulates Salesforce changes.
    * **Live:** Parker writes changes to Salesforce as you. Updates to existing records go through straight away, without a confirmation card.

    See [How Parker acts on your behalf](/get-started/how-parker-acts).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask your first questions">
    Close **Settings**. In the chat box, ask about your own work. Parker answers from your live Salesforce data and your mailbox.

    <Prompt description="See your open opportunities">Which of my open opportunities close this quarter? Show them in a table.</Prompt>
    <Prompt description="Get up to speed on an account">What's the latest on Northwind Supply?</Prompt>
    <Prompt description="Chart your pipeline">Chart my open pipeline by stage.</Prompt>

    Ask a follow-up in the same chat, such as "now only the ones over \$50,000".
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try a first small action">
    Ask Parker to create something small, such as a follow-up task.

    <Prompt description="Create a follow-up task">Create a task on the Northwind Supply opportunity: Call to book a site visit, due this Friday.</Prompt>

    Parker shows what it will create, with **Confirm** and **Reject** under it. Read it, and then select **Confirm** to go ahead or **Reject** to cancel.

    <Warning>
      **Check before Parker changes Salesforce.**

      * **Creating** a record shows a card with **Confirm** and **Reject**. Nothing is written until you select **Confirm**.
      * **Updating** an existing record has no card. If you've told Parker exactly what to change, it makes the change straight away in **Live** mode.

      See [How Parker acts on your behalf](/get-started/how-parker-acts).
    </Warning>
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Check it worked

* In **Settings** > **Connections**, the **Connected** tab lists Salesforce and your mailbox. Microsoft 365 reads **Partly connected** until you connect both mail and calendar.
* Parker's answers name your own records and show numbered source markers you can select to see where a figure came from.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Parker says it can't find a record I know exists">
    Parker sees only what your own Salesforce login can see. If you can't open the record in Salesforce, Parker can't either. Ask your Salesforce admin about your access.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Parker made a change, but it isn't in Salesforce">
    Check **Agent mode** in **Settings** > **Connections** > **Salesforce**. In **Test** mode, Parker only simulates changes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Microsoft 365 shows Partly connected">
    Microsoft grants mail and calendar access separately. Select the **Microsoft 365** row and connect the one that's missing, such as **Connect Calendar**.
  </Accordion>
