# What Parker can and can't do

> Understand what data Parker can see, what it can do for you, where its limits are, and how to check an answer before you act on it.

Parker answers questions and does tasks using your Salesforce data, your mailbox, and your team's knowledge. It sees only what your own logins allow. Its answers can be wrong, so it shows you where each answer came from.

## What data can Parker see?

Parker sees the accounts you connect, through your own access:

* **Salesforce.** Parker reads and writes Salesforce as you, using your own Salesforce login. Salesforce applies your permissions, field-level security, and sharing rules. If you can't see a record or field in Salesforce, Parker can't either.
* **Your mailbox and calendar.** Once you connect Microsoft 365 or Gmail, Parker can read, search, and send from your mailbox. With your calendar connected, it can read availability and book meetings.
* **Knowledge.** Parker can search the documents and websites in your workspace's knowledge. See [Knowledge](/admin/knowledge).
* **Files you share in chat.** Parker reads files you attach to a message. See [Files and attachments](/chat/files-and-attachments).
* **Memory.** Parker remembers lessons and preferences, such as how you like figures presented. You can review and remove them. See [Memory](/chat/memory-and-private-chats).
* **Connector apps.** If your workspace adds an app, such as Linear, Notion, or Asana, Parker can use it too.

## What can Parker do?

| You can ask Parker to… | Learn more |
| - | - |
| Find records, pipeline, and activity in Salesforce, and summarize them | [Ask about Salesforce](/chat/salesforce-questions) |
| Create or update Salesforce records | [Update records](/chat/updating-records) |
| Draft emails and replies | [Draft and send email](/email/drafting-email) |

| Read files and spreadsheets you attach | [Files and attachments](/chat/files-and-attachments) |
| Run a task on a schedule or whenever something happens | [Routines](/automate/routines) and [Automations](/automate/automations) |

Before Parker creates a Salesforce record, it shows you what it will do and waits for **Confirm**. Updates to existing records go through straight away in **Live** mode. See [How Parker acts on your behalf](/get-started/how-parker-acts).

## What can't Parker do?

* **Go beyond your access.** Parker can't read or change anything your own Salesforce login can't.
* **Use accounts you haven't connected.** For example, Parker can't read your email until you connect your mailbox.
* **Make real Salesforce changes in Test mode.** In Test mode, Parker only simulates changes. See [Test mode and Live mode](/get-started/how-parker-acts#test-mode-and-live-mode).

## Can Parker's answers be wrong?

Yes. Parker is an AI assistant, and it can misread a question, pick the wrong record, or get a figure wrong. Every chat says **Parker AI can make mistakes. Check responses.** Answers can also differ between two runs of the same question, because Parker reads your live data each time.

<Tip>
Parker's answers come from your live data and can vary from one run to the next. Check important figures against Salesforce before acting on them, and use the sources Parker shows to see where an answer came from.
</Tip>

Treat Parker's answer as a strong first draft. Check anything important before you act on it, especially figures you'll share, and any change to customer data.

## How do I check an answer?

Parker shows its work in several ways:

1. **Source markers.** Records and facts in an answer carry small numbered markers. Hover over one to see the record, with **Fetched live from Salesforce for this reply**. Select it to open the record beside the chat.
2. **The Sources panel.** In the chat header, select **Sources** to see every source Parker used. A badge at the top, such as **Verified**, shows whether the figures were checked against their sources.
3. **Notes on this reply.** Some answers end with notes, such as a **Stale** note when the records haven't been edited for a while.
4. **The steps Parker took.** Under the answer, select the **Worked through** line to see each step, such as the Salesforce queries Parker ran.

You can also select text in an answer, and then select **Show records** to ask Parker for the records behind it.

## What if Parker can't help?

Everything Parker does, you can still do yourself. Parker works on top of your existing tools, not instead of them:

* Open the record in Salesforce to read or change it. The record view in Parker has **Open in Salesforce**.
* Send the email from Outlook or Gmail. On an email draft, open **More send options** and choose **Open in Outlook**, **Open in Gmail**, or **Open in Mail**.
* If Parker's answer isn't right, tell it what's wrong in the same chat, or start a new chat with a more specific request. See [Tips for asking Parker](/get-started/asking-parker).
* If something seems broken, see [Troubleshooting](/reference/troubleshooting).
