# Attach files to a chat

> Attach PDFs, Office files, spreadsheets, text, and images to a chat, and ask Parker to summarize them or pull details out of them.

Attach a file to a chat, then ask Parker about it in the same message.

## Before you begin

* Have the file on your computer. You don't need any connections to attach files.

## Attach a file

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the file">
    Select **Attach** (the paperclip in the message box), and then choose one or more files.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the file card">
    Each file appears as a card in the message box, with its type and size. Under the cards, a counter shows how much you've used, for example "1 of 10 files · 51 B of 30 MB". To take a file off, select the **×** on its card.

    <Frame caption="An attached file, waiting to be sent.">

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask your question">
    Type what you want to know about the file, and then send the message.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Check it worked

Your message shows the file as a card, and Parker's answer refers to what's in the file. Select the file card to open it in a viewer, where you can select **Download**. Select **Close viewer** when you're done.

<Tip>
  Parker's answers come from your live data and can vary from one run to the next. Check important figures against Salesforce before acting on them, and use the sources Parker shows to see where an answer came from.
</Tip>

## Which files can I attach?

| Kind | File types |
| - | - |
| Documents | PDF (`.pdf`), Word (`.docx`), PowerPoint (`.pptx`) |
| Spreadsheets and data | Excel (`.xlsx`), CSV (`.csv`), JSON (`.json`), XML (`.xml`) |
| Text and web | Plain text (`.txt`), Markdown (`.md`), HTML (`.html`, `.htm`) |
| Images | PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP |

Older Office formats, such as `.doc`, can't be attached. Save the file in the newer format first.

## How many files can I attach?

One message can hold up to 10 files and 30 MB in total. The counter under the file cards shows how much you've used.

## Where do my files go?

Files you attach stay with that chat. They also appear in [Files](/library/files) <Badge>Beta</Badge> in the sidebar, marked **Uploaded by you**. Files that Parker makes for you, such as a Salesforce export, appear there too, marked **Made by Parker**.

## Example prompts

<Prompt description="Summarize an attached file">Summarise this file in one sentence.</Prompt>

<Prompt description="Pull out key details">List the key dates, names, and amounts in this contract.</Prompt>

<Prompt description="Find what stands out in a spreadsheet">What stands out in the numbers in this spreadsheet?</Prompt>
